Moonrise Kingdom by Wes Anderson- Film Analysis

Krutika Shinde

This film feels like a warm painting to me with beautiful colors like humor and love. It's simple and yet so beautiful. It's about two 12-year-olds kids falling in love with each other. What would 12-year-old kids do? The world around them vanishes when it comes to love. The characters Sam and Suzy ran away together in the wilderness due to their past personal traumas on a very peaceful island. The khaki scout leader along with Suzy's parents and with various authorities tries to hunt them down. It makes a peaceful place upside down.

The first thing that I noticed about this film was that it had wide angles, medium close-ups, and dissolve edits. It was a bright film that felt sunny and it had colors based on grass and on a khaki uniform like green, yellow and bright brown. This movie was literally nature itself.

The music behind the background added more value to the scenes. The details were so focused in this film For example Suzy's house, dining table, and much more. The camerawork and costumes were great in this film. The long shots captured my attention.

This film had so many quotes within it which later on I had to google because it made me think about it. I've been keeping these quotes as my mobile's wallpaper because I loved them all.

Rarely anybody was smiling in this film. It also had a comic touch but the characters never laughed or smiled when they said something funny to each other. It also had some scenes where the characters were looking directly into the camera and this is seen in very few films, which makes this film very different from other films.

This film feels sunny, peaceful, and gentle. Although, it doesn't feel as if it's a mature film because it's about two kids so a viewer shouldn't expect something real from this film because I think the director itself wanted us to experience something about kids, their thoughts, their perspectives which doesn't make sense because they are not adults who will take rational decisions.

Moonrise Kingdom is the place where I would like to go on a vacation. Peaceful, sunny, pure greenery all around with a beautiful blue sky, in arms of mother nature. What else would I want?
